Generic advice is good advice
We think of ourselves as someone better than we actually are, call it cognitive bias or self importance or whatever but we are not the people we are in our head neither are we the people others think we are. We are somewhere in the middle, the average of these two extreme perceived personalities.
We think that we are different and that we need distinct advice and something more specific or different from the usual that is actually helpful and look down upon generic stuff advice that people throw around all the time.
Now don't get me wrong, You are the protagonist of your life, you absolutely are but in real life there is no plot armour and most importantly we aren't born with exceptional talents, most stories are about the exceptional people not the average joe.
When we say generic advice doesn't work for us and need non-generic advice, what we are actually asking is more of a roadmap, a route that'll get us to the end point without much sweat, maybe even a shortcut.
What we miss out on is that generic advice is exactly what pushes the average joe closer to the exceptional people bracket, it's good and exactly what you need to get started, it is what get's you out the bloody driveway, it's you who has to alter the advice, change it, bend it, flip it on it's head and do whatever it takes to take yourself forward, There exists no one roadmap to follow that is suitable for your particular case.
There is definitive difference between generic advice and just out right bad advice, everyone's gotta be vary of bad advice but generic is not bad, we often think about them as one and the same.
Generic advice often comes across as useless cause it seems like it's not getting you anywhere, it's a J curve just hold on long enough to reach the point where you start realising that generic advice is good advice.
